Packaging Design
Toys That Encourage Thinking Design as a Catalyst for Thinking
This project was focused on creating a toy that would innovate critical thinking by raising awareness on a social, political, environmental or cultural issues happening today. Unlike the other packaging design projects, this project was a group project, hence, I worked alongside three other people. Despite the challenges that came with working with people I've never spoken with before, we managed to create a board game focused on animal issues and the conflicts they face in their environments whether that's deforestation, natural disaster damage, poaching, etc. Each member in the group was assigned strict roles. For my group, I was the visual branding, hence my contribution to the project was heavily focused on the design of the box and the heavy illustrations, which I made myself. Dante Rodriguez and Jose Olmert were prototype, meaning they focused more on how the project would look like printed. Anthony Kelly was the Concept and Research, so he focused on the ideas for the game and the research of the environments of the animals.

Promotional Piece Limited Edition: Trinket Box
Handcrafted Piece
For the portfolio show to advertise myself, I designed a trinket box with my branding. Inside the box contains a pin I designed, 5 pill-shaped capsules with personal messages, a heart-shaped flower petal preserved and cut out, my business card, and a sticker I designed. Trinket boxes are often used out of products we consume, such as mints or gum, for mine I chose a cigarette box since my promotional pieces overall align with the themes of death and rebirth, which speaking of, I also designed a bookmark with a more spacial inspiration of death that happens outside of what we can see. Putting a warning here, the cigarette box functions as a trinket box, in no way shape or form is the box functioning as a legitimate design for cigarettes.

La Michoacana: Tradición Natural
For this project, I was assigned to create the packaging for a food takeout system for local or even private food businesses. I wanted to take a more personal approach with this one and show bits of my own culture. Growing up in Tijuana and later on crossing over to visit my family, we would have a lot of michoacanas in the corner of neighborhoods, and each of them were different and family owned. Michoacánas are ice cream shops that originated in Michoacan, but have expanded throughout all of Mexico and even in some parts of Southern California. I wanted to bring a ting of nostalgia in this project.

The Dark Abyss: Canned Seafood
For this project, I was to design a brand of canned seafood for a DINKS demographic, double income no kids. The thing to consider for this project too, was to be as ethical as possible and involve the issues of fish farming and how that influences canned food. For my project, I decided to do a packaging based off more punk ideology, since for one, punk is non conformist and left leaning, which in a package, that would stand out. I also wanted to make it educational, hence, each box has illustrations based off the environment the seafood is from, explaining what each water zone is and explaining what it means to be "wild-caught".
